Auger Tool Selection Video

Terex Auger Video WEBTerex Utilities has released a video demonstrating the importance of selecting the right auger tool for the job conditions. Selection factors include auger style tools or barrel tools, various types of teeth and multiple tool sizes.

In the video, Terex Utilities performs a side-by-side comparison of its TXC Auger and BTA Spiral with carbide bullet teeth drilling into the concrete. The TXC is best for loose, compacted soils; stiff clays; shale; cobbles; and medium rock strata. It’s not designed for cutting through concrete or hard rock. In contrast, the BTA Spiral is efficient for drilling into hard rock and concrete. After about 12 minutes, there is a drastic contrast in the amount of work accomplished by the BTA Spiral.

FR Hi-Dex Gloves

Youngstown FR Gloves WEBYoungstown’s FR Hi-Dex Glove offers multihazard protection while maintaining excellent dexterity and comfort. This glove was developed with lineworkers who were seeking the most dexterous glove they could get that still met their company standards of Cut Level A3 with FR/AR properties.

To achieve this, we use a single-layer palm made of flexible, durable goat-grain leather. The entire interior of the glove is then lined with Kevlar fiber. Equipment Operator Training

Terex Equipment Operator Training WEBThe Edge online training curriculum from Terex Utilities offers a convenient, self-paced training tool for operators seeking to document their understanding of aerial device and digger derrick operation. Each program, which takes six to eight hours to complete, includes an entrance exam to provide a benchmark for the incoming knowledge level of the operator. A quiz follows each learning section, and programs conclude with a final exam. Successful completion requires 85% or better, after which a certificate of completion and wallet card are issued.

The Aerial Device module covers topics such as personal protective equipment, explanation of insulated versus non-insulated devices, inspections, planning the job, understanding platform capacity, controls, lifting loads and basic rigging.

In addition to pre-shift inspections and setup, the Digger Derrick module covers setting outriggers, identifying obstructions, load charts, basic rigging, hand signals, electrical hazards and emergency operations. It also can be used as preparation for NCCCO digger derrick operator certification.

The Edge training materials are not manufacturer specific, so information is applicable to all operators of aerial devices and digger derricks. The cost is $150 per person per module.

Retractable Horizontal Lifeline

PSG Horizontal Lifeline WEBPure Safety Group has introduced the Guardian Retractable HLL for use in either fall arrest or fall restraint applications.

During a fall, the Retractable HLL will deploy an extending metal energy absorber designed to reduce peak loads to anchorage structures.

The new Retractable HLL also can be used as part of a fall restraint system, which prevents the worker from reaching the leading edge of a fall hazard.

The main component of the HLL is a 60-foot galvanized cable horizontal lifeline, which is extremely durable yet portable and designed for temporary use. When it has been involved in a fall, its energy absorber clearly indicates that to the user.

This product also features a single-direction tensioner handle that prevents accidental releases and folds down to lay flat along the unit, secured by a magnet to prevent work interference.

The HLL’s hex shaft can connect to a drill to speed retrieval of the lifeline, and its extremely low deflections create low fall clearance for users. The stainless-steel housing and handles are corrosion resistant, which extends the life of the product.

Quick and easy to install, the HLL can accommodate two workers at the same time, at a weight of 130-310 pounds per worker.
