Southwire Company LLC has a new line of Intelligent Grid solutions that combine innovations in monitoring and analytics to provide wide area awareness of grid assets. Solutions include line and substation monitoring, which collects, communicates and processes data from multiple sensors to improve reliability, capacity and generation dispatch.
To do this, Southwire’s Intelligent Grid solutions collect and aggregate data from sensors and weather nodes and transmit that information to the utility via a cellular or utility-specific communication network. The data is processed using Southwire algorithms and interfaced into the utility data and control systems. Monitoring options include sag, temperature and rating for conductors, degradation of conductor connectors and likelihood of flashover due to contamination for insulators and substation equipment bushings.
Line/connector sensors measure conductor/connector temperature, catenary and line current. The lightweight, maintenance-free sensors are self-powered from the line current and can run approximately 45 days with no line current. They communicate using a 2.4-GHz RF signal to a base station that aggregates the data from multiple sensors.

Hastings understands that every day has the potential to bring the unexpected to lineworkers. That’s why the company designs every product, including its all new camera-mounting hot stick, with safety in mind.
Modeled after the Hastings Tel-O-Pole series, this specially engineered hot stick allows for a GoPro action camera to be mounted and utilized for quick, easy and safe inspection of and around energized lines, transformers, insulators, poles, buildings and bridges.
Utility workers can use the camera to wirelessly stream and record live picture and video to the ground with any iPhone, tablet or Android device compatible with the GoPro application. The hot stick may even allow inspections to be completed without the use of a bucket truck, lift or climbing gear.

The Safety Arrow from Deflecto LLC is a patented new emergency safety product designed to help reduce highway accidents and potentially save lives. The Safety Arrow provides a reflective, instantly recognizable device to help divert traffic around a roadside hazard. It can be used on trucks along with federally mandated reflective triangles or on automobiles and could significantly reduce the risk of secondary accidents due to stopped or disabled vehicles.
Deflecto’s Safety Arrow uses ultrabright fluorescent yellow reflective material that exceeds ASTM D4956 standards for visibility in a large, directional arrow design. Drivers point the arrow away from their stopped vehicle by placing it to the rear of the truck or car via attached magnets. Although the Safety Arrow opens to a large, highly visible size, it folds down easily for compact storage.

Plastic Safety Systems' SafetyWall ADA-Compliant Pedestrian Barricade provides continuous, obstacle-free guidance through pedestrian work zones. It is ideal for pedestrians who are blind or have limited vision or mobility issues.
SafetyWall creates accessible and detectable pedestrian work zones, either as a single sidewalk closure or as a continuous longitudinal channelizer device.
The barricade features a smooth, rounded top for safe hand guidance, and its ground-hugging bottom practically eliminates trapping cane tips.
SafetyWall can help support pedestrians in the event of a fall. It provides the same level of pedestrian guidance as a concrete or plastic barrier, but is easier to transport, install and remove.

Several new features have been developed for the FiberMax crane mat product line from DICA Outrigger Pads, including a static dissipation strip, corner cribbing and additional rigging hardware options.
The static dissipation strip provides a path for electric current, static or otherwise, to the ground. The crane mats themselves are nonconductive, providing an insulating barrier from the equipment to the ground. The new option allows for the transfer of electrical charges to be transmitted through the equipment float into the dissipation strip to the steel frame and ultimately to the ground, assuming the mat is placed on a conductive surface.
When stacking crane mats for storage, the new corner cribbing feature eliminates the need for operators to place temporary cribbing between each mat. This makes stacking the mats using a forklift more efficient and eliminates pinch hazards between stacked mats.
In addition to standard J-hooks, DICA now offers three new rigging hardware options including standard D-rings, optional Crosby Pivot Links and a new Stack & Pin option. The Stack & Pin feature secures four mats together for lifting as a single unit. This feature simplifies load securement for transportation and storage purposes. www.dicausa.com
William Frick & Co. has expanded its offering of utility and safety products with the addition of cone sleeve products. These high-visibility cone sleeves direct traffic away from potential hazards using a customized message. They neatly fold away when not in use and are great for taking to different job sites.
Choose from two styles: The Full-Coverage Cone Sleeve comes in bright lime green to contrast against the work-zone orange of traffic cones so your message stands out. The Flexible Sidewalk Barrier instantly restricts access to work areas; just slip over two traffic cones to create a barrier – an excellent alternative to cone bars and cumbersome floor-mount barricades.
