As the use of technology expands daily into many aspects of our lives, the message of safety and incident prevention is more important than ever. Technology use places increasing demands on the electrical infrastructure and the individuals who must maintain and expand it.
Individuals in the field continually provide important feedback regarding safety and productivity, and this inspired the team at Hi-Line to pursue important design upgrades to their Hi-Grip Xtreme glove protectors.
The Hi-Grip Xtreme glove protectors are now arc rated to ASTM F2675/F2675M-19 standards. They offer protection up to 28 cal/cm² and ANSI Level 2 cut resistance. In addition to the all-leather cuff, the secure straps have been upgraded to reinforced leather.
New sizes and mitt-style protectors are now available with an improved thumb design that provides greater dexterity. The Hi-Grip Xtreme glove protectors still feature a full silicone-grip palm that provides supreme control, along with a Kevlar underlay and Kevlar stitching for maximum strength. They have been rigorously field tested for durability and include a wear guard on the top of the hand for extra protection.

Iron Age Footwear has introduced its innovative Immortalizer work boot series. According to the company, the Immortalizer is the first and only boot on the planet to feature mortar- and lime-resistant leather as well as the Muckraker outsole cleaning system. These innovative durability features revolutionize footwear’s fight against leather and rubber creasing, cracking, delaminating and splitting created by concrete and mortar.
The Immortalizer Composite Toe Work Boot comes in a 6-inch lace-up and 10-inch Wellington version. Both models offer superior cushion with Iron Age’s own Bootbed durable memory-foam footbed. The crack-resistant leather is connected by direct-attached construction to a rubber slip-resistant outsole with Easy Clean grooves. Each version comes with a Muckraker metallic cleaning tool that scrapes wet mortar and mud out of the grooves, allowing for a much longer-lasting outsole.
Also helping to keep water away from the feet of workers is an abrasion-resistant toe guard that wraps around the top and side of the toe. On the inside of the boot, a Hydrotex waterproof liner wicks any penetrating moisture away from the foot while also allowing for breathability in the process. Any worker who deals with lime and fly ash will appreciate this innovative work boot that will keep concrete and mortar out while also elongating the life of their boots to help their boot budgets.

Petzl, manufacturer of professional safety equipment for over 25 years, recently showcased the new STRATO and updated VERTEX line of ANSI-compliant helmets with rated chinstraps, in addition to the JAG RESCUE KIT, at the Safety 2019 Professional Development Conference and Exposition.
The VERTEX helmet is designed with a six-point suspension system that conforms to the shape of the user’s head for maximum comfort. This webbing suspension allows for maximum breathability while ensuring separation between the user’s head and the external shell in case of impact.
The STRATO is a remarkably lightweight and comfortable helmet due its dual inner foam construction. The liner incorporates an expanded polypropylene and expanded polystyrene foam to reduce weight and achieve superb shock absorption. The helmet comes in vented and unvented versions, as well as in high-visibility colors of yellow and orange for increased visibility.
Both helmet models offer Petzl-exclusive CENTERFIT adjustment for quick sizing that allows the helmet to be perfectly centered on the head. A FLIP&FIT system on the headband can fold into the shell for easy storage and transport. Each helmet can be personally modified with an extensive line of accessories using the new EASYCLIP system, which makes adding or removing accessories, like eye and face shields, simple and intuitive.
With a commitment to providing intuitive and dependable work-at-height equipment, Petzl also has introduced an updated JAG RESCUE KIT, a ready-to-use rope rescue system. The kit makes for efficient pickoffs and lowering of casualties with an integrated 4:1 mechanical advantage. Included in the kit is everything needed to easily transfer the weight of a casualty from the lanyard to the rescue system and lower them to a safe level.
