diversified-auxiliary-armDiversified Products’ Auxiliary Arm for cranes, bucket trucks and digger derricks supports one or three conductors while line crews replace insulators, crossarms, poles or hardware. It can also be used to create additional workspace clearance.

The Auxiliary Arm uses simple hardware to attach to the tip of any crane, bucket truck or digger derrick boom. The unit features a 5-foot mast, which consists of 4-foot clear span fiberglass, and a 12-foot horizontal support arm, which consists of 5-foot clear span fiberglass. Without the use of any tools, the mast and support arm can be easily angled and rotated for proper alignment with the conductors.

The horizontal support arm contains three wire holders with spring-loaded latches and rollers to prevent damage to conductors. The outside holders can be quickly repositioned along the support bar in order to accommodate any conductor spacing. The mast can be used without the support arm to perform single-phase lifts.

The Auxiliary Arm has been field tested and approved by transmission and distribution maintenance professionals. It can support a maximum balanced vertical load of 1,350 pounds or an unbalanced vertical load of 1,000 pounds.

Options include regular- or heavy-duty wire holders, neutral wire support, and storage bags for the mast and support arm.

gmp-ramrodGeneral Machine Products Company (GMP) has introduced the Ramrod, a trailer-mounted, powered duct rod pusher. The Ramrod offers a mechanized method for working with GMP's 1/2-inch (12.7-mm) duct rods. It provides an alternative to expensive rodding trucks, which can cause damage to existing cable due to their immense power. The Ramrod is hydraulically powered, providing precise control, and can push and pull forces up to 300 pounds (136.1 kg), all while moving at speeds of up to 130 feet (39.6 m) per minute.

The Ramrod is trailer-mounted for convenient maneuverability and transportability. It features a gasoline-driven power pack, hoses and a locking waterproof storage box for accessories. The unit accurately measures rod-pushing footage and speed with an electronic monitoring system that works in either direction. The readout can be scaled to feet or meters.

After a conduit has been rodded, the Ramrod retrieves the rod using its bidirectional drive track. As the rod is retrieved, a wiping window located at the front end of the machine allows the rod to be wiped clean prior to storing back on the cassette. A package of rod wiper pads is provided. The complete Ramrod unit weighs 1,400 pounds (635 kg).

GMP's 1/2-inch (12.7-mm) duct rods are available in lengths of 200-1,200 feet (61-366 m) and can also be sold separately. GMP duct rods are also available in 1/4-inch (6.35-mm) and 3/8-inch (9.40-mm) diameter. Finally, GMP also offers equivalent toneable duct rodders.
